Sarah Byrnes and Eric have been friends for years. When they were children, his fat and her terrible scars made them both outcasts. Later, although swimming slimmed Eric, she stayed his closest friend.
Now Sarah Byrnes—the smartest, toughest person Eric has ever known—sits silent in a hospital. Eric must uncover the terrible secret she’s hiding, before its dark currents pull them both under.
My Review:
Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes by Chris Crutcher
Wow, just wow – STAYING FAT FOR SARAH BYRNES isn’t a book for the weak of heart or those who want to avoid tough, controversial subjects. I haven’t read anything like it (you won’t get details from me), and I am sure most readers would agree that it’s one of a kind. Personally, I highly recommend it, but then again, I appreciate different perspectives and those who write to make others think – especially about their beliefs. If you don’t appreciate this in literature, then avoid Chris Crutcher – but he’s not an award-winning author for nothing!
